Vegas and Valentines

Dave and I recently returned from a week in Las Vegas where we attended the 2019 PAII conference; you may have noticed their logo on our website indicating our membership in the Professional Association of Innkeepers International. We met both seasoned and aspiring innkeepers from all around the country, and we talked with vendors selling everything from scone mixes (no thank you, I make everything from scratch at Laurel Manor House), to insurance, reservation systems, website services, channel management, and more. We increased our knowledge of the innkeeping industry and also found time to see the Blue Man Group and a Cirque du Soleil show.

With our scheduled vacation over, Dave– a NASA employee– finds himself still on an unscheduled federally-mandated “vacation”. I rather like having my husband at home and he has kept himself busy with house maintenance, tree-pruning, and phone calls to our representatives in Washington, DC. It’s early yet in this new year and we already know, as a result of this record-breaking Federal Furlough, that 2019 will be remembered as a year of historical significance. I resolve, however, to make this year memorable for reasons of my choosing and encourage you to do the same. (e.g. My first ever trip to Vegas! My first Cirque du Soleil show!) What will you schedule for yourself to make 2019 unforgettable?

If January is a month for resolutions, February –just days away– is the month for making time to spend with a special someone. [Note: Valentine’s Day is exactly two weeks from today, and it’s followed by a three-day weekend!] Reserve a night or two (or three) at Laurel Manor House Bed and Breakfast and let me know if you need help scheduling a memorable get-away. Suggestions include a theater outing with choices nearby so you won’t have to venture into DC or Baltimore. Options include theaters in Laurel’s historic district, dinner theater in Columbia, or a stage production in Olney:

Laurel Mill Playhouse: “12 Incompetent Jurors” (a “Twelve Angry Men” parody) opens on February 1
Toby’s Dinner Theatre: “Gypsy” runs through March 17
Olney Theatre: “Once” runs February 6 – March 10
Venus Theatre will announce their 2019 schedule on February 9…. stay tuned!

I have a small gift for every guest who stays with us in the month of February. Check out our reservation calendar while we still have rooms available!
